A dress, not hiding but showing, is on display in the exhibition Asylum at Kulturhuset in Stockholm which opens tonight.  It is the fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli’s dress The Skeleton from around 1930.

Many of the artists in the exhibition are clearly influenced by the dress sewn almost eighty years ago. The fat, harnesk-like knitting of Sandra Backlund look a bit like it and the skin-like dresses made of leather by Minna Palmqvist definitly resemblance it.

Today Stockholm has opened a new scene for art and fashion with the exhibition by curator and chief of fashion Karina Ericsson Wärn.
The exhibition takes fashion seriously, and that is important.  Fashion can be more than money, cat walks and fame. It is an expression of creativity and can say something about the society and the contemporary life.
